There are three main school or college phone systems to choose from:
On-premise
There are many Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems which still work and iCS will provide guidance on whether you should continue with your current investment or completely transform your phone system.
However, it should be noted that many existing school telephone systems use traditional ISDN lines. BT has announced it will switch off its ISDN network by 2025, with many experts predicting the demise of ISDN by 2020, so now is a good time to consider the next step.
Cloud / Hosted
Cloud-based telephony, also known as hosted, allows you to pay a cost per month, per user and you can access all of the features of on-premise based solutions, without the need for hardware (other than the physical phones) on site. You access and control the system simply and easily via a web portal.
Whichever phone system you install, the biggest benefit is that they are able to work from any phone, including mobile devices, enabling true mobile and remote working. This is particularly useful if your staff move between buildings or across several sites.
